Haniger Powers Tech Baseball to 12-1 Win Over Wake Forest

ATLANTA - Jason Haniger had a career-high five RBI with two home runs while David Duncan allowed just one run through eight innings to lead Georgia Tech (30-12, 11-11 ACC) to a 12-1 victory over Wake Forest (16-26, 7-14 ACC) Friday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Haniger went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and a double to help Georgia Tech eclipse the 30-win mark for the 26th-consecutive season. His two-run home run in the second inning gave the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 lead, and he blasted a three-run shot in the seventh inning for his sixth home run of the season.

Yellow Jacket starter David Duncan improved to 5-2 on the year by holding the Demon Deacons to one run on six hits in eight innings of work. He also struck out seven and walked just three before turning the ball over to Kevin Jacob, who tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Brad Feltes, Luke Murton and Tony Plagman all had two hits as Tech posted 13 on the night. Murtonís two doubles extended his streak to seven-straight hits going for extra bases. Thirteen of his last 14 hits have also been for extra bases, spanning the last six games. The Yellow Jackets had seven extra-base hits on the night.

An RBI double by Murton and sacrifice fly from Plagman staked the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before Hanigerís two-run home run pushed Techís lead to four runs in the second.

Dustin Hood led off the fourth inning with a solo home run, but thatís all the Demon Deacons would get against Duncan, who then retired 12 of the next 13 batters he faced.

Tech answered with an RBI single by Charlie Blackmon in the bottom of the fourth, and then pushed the score to 7-1 in the fifth inning behind back-to-back solo home runs from Feltes and Plagman.

Jeff Rowland drove in a run with a two-out single in the seventh inning before Haniger sent his second home run of the game over the left field wall to make it a 10-run contest.

Murton doubled with one out in the eighth and was plated on Plagmanís RBI single to cap the scoring.

Wake Forest starter Garrett Bullock (3-5) took the loss, giving up seven runs on seven hits while walking five in the game.

The Jackets and Deacs continue the series Saturday at 1 p.m. in the ACC Game of the Week, which will televised on the leagueís Regional Sports Network, which includes FSN South, Sun Sports, Comcast SportsNet and NESN.
