BURKS PITCHES TECH TO SWEEP OF N.C. STATE 3-0

RALEIGH, N.C. - Brian Burks tossed a five-hit shutout and Matt Murton drove in two runs to lead sixth-ranked Georgia Tech (22-4, 3-2 ACC) to a 3-0 victory over N.C. State (19-11, 1-5 ACC) in the second game of the doubleheader at Doak Field on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets won the first game 20-12 with a 12-run seventh inning, which was highlighted by a grand slam from Murton, who had seven RBI in the two games.

Murton had two hits and two RBI, to add to his two-hit, five RBI performance in the first game of the doubleheader.

Jeremy Slayden led off the sixth inning by getting hit by a pitch, and Tyler Parker moved him to second base on a single. Murton then drove a long single to left field to score the two runners. Tech received an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Victor Menocal, which extended his career-high hitting streak to 24 games.

Burks (6-2) pitched a complete game shutout for Georgia Tech, the first of his career and the first by a Yellow Jacket hurler since 1998. He had five strikeouts in the game, while allowing no walks and no runs.

N.C. State starter Daniel Caldwell (5-3) also went the distance in the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out six.

Georgia Tech will return home for a two-game series with Georgia Southern beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.
