TECH ROUTS NORTH CAROLINA 19-5

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Mark Teixeira homered and drove in five runs to lead No. 10 Georgia Tech (39-15, 13-10 ACC) to a 19-5 victory over North Carolina (30-24, 8-15 ACC) on Saturday night at Boshamer Stadium. Tech's victory evened the three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series at one win each.

Tech's Rhett Parrott (9-4) picked up the victory after holding the Tar Heels to three earned runs on six hits in six innings, leaving the game after a rain delay in the top of the seventh. He walked two batters and struck out five.

Brian Burks tossed three innings to close out the game and pick up his second save of the season.

North Carolina starter Scott Manshack (3-4), who allowed seven runs in 2.1 innings, took the loss.

The Tar Heels took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run double from Jason Howell, but Tech tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the second with an RBI groundout from Jason Perry and a sacrifice fly by Brad Stockton.

The Yellow Jackets broke the game open with a six-run third inning. The first two batters of the inning singled before Teixeira blasted a three-run homer to right field, his fifth of the season and his first since returning from a broken ankle. An RBI double from Stockton, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, and an RBI single from Perry, who finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, capped the scoring in the inning.

Tech pushed the lead to 11-2 with three more runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double from Matthew Boggs.

An RBI groundout from Richard Lewis made the score 12-4 in the top of the seventh before the Yellow Jackets put the game away with a seven-run ninth inning. The inning was highlighted by a solo homer from Perry, his team-leading 13th of the season, and a two-run single from Teixeira. The Yellow Jackets outhit the Tar Heels, 23-8, led by Stockton's four-hit performance. Boggs and Victor Menocal each had three hits, while Lewis, Teixeira, Perry, Jason Basil and Wes Rynders added two hits each. All nine Tech starters had at least one hit in the contest.

Georgia Tech and North Carolina will conclude the three-game series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WREK Radio (91.1 FM in Atlanta).
